ConversationbeginnerBy Campusmate Team · Updated Oct 3, 2026

The first phrases to learn: hello, nice to meet you, thank you and sorry.

These phrases work in most everyday situations. They use the polite style, so they are safe with strangers, shop staff and teachers.

  • 만나서 반갑습니다. — Nice to meet you.
  • 저는 ○○입니다. — I am ○○. (fill in your name)
  • 저는 ○○에서 왔어요. — I am from ○○. (fill in your country)

Being polite

  • 감사합니다. — Thank you.
  • 죄송합니다. — I am sorry. (formal apology)
  • 실례합니다. — Excuse me.
  • 네 / 아니요. — Yes / No.

Saying goodbye

  • 안녕히 가세요. — Goodbye (said to the person who is leaving).
  • 안녕히 계세요. — Goodbye (said by the person leaving to the person who stays).
