‘좋아요’ Is Sometimes a Whole Conversation in One Word 💬

Someone suggests getting coffee. 좋아요.

Someone shows you a photo. 좋아요.

Someone asks about today’s weather. 좋아요.

Same little word. Different moments.

좋아요 is often taught as “good,” but in a conversation it can also feel like “Sounds good” or “I like it.” The situation does some of the work.

That is what makes it such a useful beginner expression. You can agree to a plan without building a complicated sentence first.

내일 같이 공부할까요?

Shall we study together tomorrow?

좋아요!

Sounds good!

Now compare two ways of talking about a song:

이 노래가 좋아요. — This song is good / I like this song.

저는 이 노래를 좋아해요. — I like this song.

좋아해요 is the verb for liking someone or something. Notice how 노래가 in the first example becomes 노래를 in the second. If you are studying particles, that pair is worth keeping.

You can start by recognising the expression when someone says it. Then try it the next time a plan sounds good to you.

Small phrases are underrated. Sometimes being able to say “yes, that sounds nice” is the thing that keeps a conversation moving.

What is your one-word lifesaver in a language you are learning? The word you use much more often than you expected.
